Willowcrest Farm is excited to offer Equine Assisted Learning sessions as part of our services.

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) includes horses in specially-designed experiential learning exercises. Coach Julie Diamond guides learners by observing and translating the non-verbal communication of the horses to have a positive impact on individuals of all ages.

EAL can support skills development such as leadership, communication, and team-building, by guiding participants on a powerful journey of learning and understanding.

What is Equine Assisted Learning?

Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) is an objective based learning program where participants work on the ground with horses through carefully designed objective-based obstacles and problem solving exercises.

The horses’ sensitive nature, awareness of their surroundings and herd instincts make them exceptional teachers. Horses look for strong leadership and are willing to follow after they find respect and trust. They help gently guide participants, letting them know when they get it right and when they have opportunities to grow!

In a horse’s world, team work is expected and respected. Horses respect fair consequences. Horses cannot lie or over think a situation. They approach every interaction with honesty. Learning to listen to what horses have to say is powerful and can sometimes be the catalyst to individual change.

Horses react to stimulus and provide a skilled facilitator with an opportunity use the horse as a barometer. By their intuitive nature, horses can provide facilitators with a window into the participant’s personality.

Through the discovery of how sensitive horses are, how kind and forgiving they can be, we can guide participants to becoming better individuals through identifying specific horse behaviours.

From date night to workplace team-building, ladies’ night out to business partnerships, EAL can truly benefit everyone!

No riding or previous horse experience is needed! All exercises are done from the ground with Julie Diamond, a trained and certified EAL facilitator.
